Welcome!

We're pleased that you've decided to apply to the Carnegie Mellon School of Music. If you haven't already done so, please read through the information below for important and helpful tips about the application process. If you have already read through this information or are familiar with our application steps and processes, scroll down and click "apply now" to get started right away.

Undergraduate candidates should be reminded that the Common Application, the Common Application supplement, and all other required supporting materials must also be submitted by December 1. Please visit the Office of Undergraduate Admission website for instructions, deadlines, requirements and procedures.

If you'd like to take a look at the application before you begin, simply scroll to the bottom of the page and look above the "Apply Now" link. Sample applications are available to browse through. Click the 'Admissions and Auditions' link in the upper left corner of the top tool bar when you are finished with your review.

There are three steps to completing the on-line application. You will be prompted through these steps on-line and in order. If you plan to audition on more than one instrument/studio, you will need to follow the three steps listed for each instrument.


Step I: ON-LINE APPLICATION
  • Remember your username and password
  • Use a working email address that will be valid through next June
  • Be sure your computer will allow receipt of automatically generated email messages from this address
  • You can stop and start throughout the process. The left sidebar will help you track your progress
  • You will be able to print your completed application once finished
  • You may update portions of your application at a later time by logging back in using your username and password
Step II: FEE PAYMENT
  • Visa and Mastercard are accepted
  • Undergraduates: $50.00 for each audition
  • Graduates, PRPs, Artist Diplomas, Music Educators, and all Certificates: $100.00
  • If you do not have a valid Visa or Mastercard, call 412-268-4118 or email mtmcgreg@andrew.cmu.edu for further instructions
Step III: AUDITION RESERVATION
  • Select your preferred audition location from the available dates listed, or click to opt to audition by recording
  • Select your preferred appointment time
  • Print your confirmation and retain the instructions for canceling or changing your audition appointment, in case needed
  • All applicants must make a reservation. this includes instruments and programs that require two auditions (composers, flutists, music and technology candidates, vocalists, music educators, conductors, pianists, and Artist Diploma candidates)
  • Only dates and locations with open appointments will be available for selection
